Client Spotlight: Maternity Boudoir Shoot in New Jersey | Molike Green

There was a random message sitting in my Facebook inbox from a man named Molike Green.

Why did it stand out? Because he did not ease into it. He came in with, “I have this amazing shoot idea. I need you to do it for me.” That energy hit me out of nowhere. It was magnetic, confident, and honestly hard to ignore.

So I was like, alright. Let’s talk. What he brought to the table was not just a shoot idea. It was something iconic.

Molike told me he was about to become a father to a baby girl through a surrogate in Argentina. He wanted to celebrate her life in a way that felt true to him. That meant a maternity shoot. Yes, a maternity shoot, with him modeling using a prosthetic belly.

I was flattered. This was bold, creative, and something I knew deserved to be done right. This was not a simple setup.

We needed a makeup artist who could properly blend skin tones and make the prosthetic belly look real. We talked through options, went back and forth, and brought Ivvybeats on board. She absolutely delivered.

Molike also had a vision for the space. He wanted a specific type of tub to make the concept work, so I spent hours going through studios, Airbnb, and different locations across New Jersey.

It took close to five hours of searching, but we found the perfect location that matched his vision and stayed within budget. That alone felt like a win.

Over the next two weeks, we built everything out. We went through references, outfit ideas, and overall direction. Molike brought a lot of creativity into the process. This was not just me directing. This was a collaboration.

By the time we got to the shoot day, everything was locked in. When we arrived, Molike was already ready. He had his sets prepared, outfits organized, and backups for different looks. Everything was intentional. You could tell he cared about every detail.

Ivvybeats came in and handled the makeup flawlessly. She blended the prosthetic belly so well that it looked natural on camera. That detail made the entire concept land. I highly recommend you checking Ivvybeats on her Facebook page. She is the first person I'm calling for make up definitely.

The defining moment of the shoot was the boudoir set with the belly. That was the reason we were there. The moment everything came together.

Molike stepped into it with full confidence. No hesitation, no holding back. He owned every frame. You could feel when we hit it. Everyone on set knew we got exactly what we came for.

These photos look amazing! You should be proud of them!

From a technical side, I leaned into a dramatic and controlled look.We used gel lighting and off camera flash to shape the scene. I shot most of it on a 35mm at f/5.0 to keep enough depth while still separating him from the background.

It kept things sharp where it mattered without making the image feel too clean or clinical. The tone was bold, dramatic, and unapologetic. Everything about this shoot was for his daughter. She was born in February, and when I saw photos of her later on Facebook, it hit me. This was more than just a concept shoot. This was a moment where a father got to feel seen and celebrated before his child even arrived. That matters.

This shoot reminded me of something simple. Love is love. It does not matter your gender or your orientation. You are allowed to love. You are allowed to have a family. You are allowed to celebrate that in whatever way feels right to you.

As an LGBTQ+ friendly photographer, that is something I stand by fully. Some shoots stay with you. This was one of them.
